here we probably have the flagship of modern day techno music. the planet rhythm label was founded by glenn wilson and has been one of the leading icons in harder, underground club techno. stigmata member andre walter teams up with chris hope for a juicy collab. resulting in their trademark pounding beats and destructive bass-heavy productions this one is bound bound to be caned by all the usual players!

this year has been a time for throne of blood to stretch out a bit. following a string of well-received singles exploring the quirkier corners of the dancefloor (dj chloe, brioksi, pleasure planet, bohemian groove, pbr streetgang) as well as moon rock a long-percolating exploration of modern ambient music, we are dropping a springtime megabomb aimed squarely at the big room.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

the infamous planet rhythm imprint is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2014. 20 naturally is a landmark-age and shows the label s ongoing persistence and hunger to catch the right beat. over the years many sounds within the techno genre have been showcased on this warm and respected home. coincidentally the label (now situated in rotterdam) just got onto a new a new flock of producers making their way into the crates of respected djs and like minded people wordwide.

its time for local talk to go local again with another swedish producer, eric ericsson. with numerous releases out in labels like planet e, fragile and freerange he is one of those producers with one foot in the techno scene and another in the more soulful house scene. basically, he is not a one trick pony! for his release on local talk we would say he lands somewhere between classic chi-town house and thumping nyc house groove but without sounding too retro or washed out. its simply real house music!

ital & halal is the psychedelic new collaboration between shadowy producer aurora halal and planet mus iconoclastic ital. recorded over six months, each track is a spiraling world unto itself, coursing between strobing club anthems and ephemeral headtrips.

after last years album *love & devotion* the husband and wife duo of mike paradinas and lara rix-martin follow up with *weird drift*. the album shows just how much their ability to write confident and thoughtful pop songs has developed, while still being able to retain the sleepy cushion of steamy synth pop that made the first record so rewarding to listen to. this time album features the vocals of a vezelay, a.k.a. french singer and producer matthieu le berre, who brings a gentle poised falsetto to the duos productions along with a delicate but hopeful angst. the vinyl lp comes with download code for the full album.

dj clent - the low end legend - has been known for his music since the days of dance mania, releasing tracks such as *bounce* and *back up off me* which are juke classics. he also released the grimy call to arms footwork track *3rd wurle*, as well as tracks on both bangs & works compilations.

andy meecham is a man of many musical incarnations and has been since the early 90s. following on from projects like the now dormant bizarre inc and revived dub-disco duo chicken lips, it is as the emperor machine that he explores his most experimental sounds. to date there have been three full length albums on dc recordings after the project was initially started with the idea of creating music using just one synth, the roland sh-3a. the results lay out the staffordshire mans love of vintage synthesisers for all to see, and combine tough edged disco beats with more cerebral cosmic melodies into alluring soundscapes that bend your mind and drive your feet. as well as a slew of 12s and lps, the emperor machine has also turned his hand to remixes of giants like moby, daft punk and royksopp, and has previously taken a live and inspiringly psychedelic incarnation of the project to clubs and festivals across the planet.

while some of you might think of planet rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it is also pushing things forward in the present time, with woo york being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprints recent catalogue. that said, 2014 starts with ukrainian duo taking over planet rhythm headquarters as the labels proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development. first out of press is the duos own ep highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. from abstract tb-303-ish structures of acid rain, through the building peaks of analogue swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to come closers uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be woo yorks strongest release to date.

index marcel fengler continues with its second installment, introducing an expertly produced ep from respected long-running artist echoplex. since 2000 echoplex, the polish born peter sliwinski, has released truly pioneering, atmospheric and soulful techno, appearing on his own soleil label, or synewave amongst many others. this triumphant return to the limelight comes in the form of three stand out tracks.

misty conditions is a project that started off when henry collins and richard wilson met up in henrys studio a couple of years ago and jammed for a few days non-stop, enjoying the process thoroughly. the connection became so good in this period that the duo developed a fluent understanding of how each other worked, ending up as a project made across the internet, while henry was living in france and richard in la. they cross pollinated by developing what each did best, henry making and creating banks of samples and richard creating software and effects to cut up and re-sample, passing the tracks back and forth, essentially until they felt finished.
